Personal Records, Your

Diet Power stores all of your personal information¾from your height to your calendar notes to how far you jogged and what you ate last Wednesday¾in a personal subfolder that contains no other information. This makes it easy to delete a user from the program without affecting other users. (See User, Deleting a.) It also enables you to carry your records back and forth between your home and office computers. (See Travel Bag, Copying Records to or from the.)

Your personal subfolder is created the first time you use Diet Power, when you click OK after filling out the Personal Information Form. The subfolder is named after you¾your first name followed by your birth date in MMDDYY form. Thus, if your name is Helen and you were born on July 4, 1976, your personal subfolder will be named \Helen070476.

Your Personal Subfolder May Be Hidden

By default, your personal subfolder is created as a hidden folder. You can't see it unless you've set Windows Explorer to display hidden files and folders. To do that:

In Windows Vista:

  1. Start up Windows Explorer. (It's usually under Accessories in your Start > All Programs list.)

  2. Click Organize > Folders and Search Options > View.

  3. Under "Hidden files and folders," choose "Show hidden files and folders."

  4. Click OK.

In Windows XP or 2000:

  1. Start up Windows Explorer. (It's usually under Accessories on your Start > Programs list.)

  2. Click Tools > Folder Options > View.

  3. Under "Hidden files and folders," choose "Show hidden files and folders."

  4. Click OK.

Location of Your Personal Subfolder

In Diet Power 4.4, your personal subfolder is located somewhere in your c:\Documents and Settings folder (assuming that you accepted the defaults when installing the program). To be more specific:

(In earlier versions of Diet Power, your personal subfolder is located elsewhere. In DietPower 4.0 it's usually in c:\Program Files\DietPower 4.0. In versions 3.3 and older, it's usually in c:\Program Files\DietPower.)

Files in Your Personal Subfolder

Inside your personal subfolder are seven kinds of files. Here are their names and what they contain:

Three Things Your Personal Subfolder Doesn't Contain:

Some of the records you create are not stored in your personal subfolder, because other users in your household may need them:

  1. The foods you've added to the Food Dictionary by entering nutrition facts from their labels. All user-added foods are kept in a file called USER.FD, stored in your main Diet Power folder so that other users in your household can see them in the dictionary. (If you accepted the defaults when installing Diet Power 4.4, your main folder is c:\Program Files\DietPower4.4.)

  2. The recipes you've added to the Food Dictionary by using the Recipe Box. These are kept in a file called RECIPE.FD, stored in your main Diet Power folder.

  3. The exercises you've added to the Exercise Dictionary. All user-added exercises are kept in a file called USER.EXR, stored in your main Diet Power folder.
