The first time you log on each day, Diet Power asks you to record your weight and any custom variables that you've set up. The program uses this information to plot the graphs in your Body History and figure your calorie budget for the day.

(This chapter of Help tells how to use the Body Log. For help with setting up the Body Log, see Body Log, Setting Up Your.)

To open the Body Log:

The Body Log opens automatically the first time you log on each day. To open the Body Log at other times, go to your Home Screen and

or

Before filling in your Body Log:

You must log a weight each day...

...because Diet Power uses the weight when calculating your calorie budget for the day. Enter the weight to the nearest tenth of a pound, if you can. (For tips on weighing, click here.)

...but you needn't actually weigh yourself every day.

If you didn't weigh yourself today, just fill in your other Body Log entries for the day (if any) and click the OK button. Diet Power will assume your weight is the same as before. Any error that this introduces will be corrected next time you log your actual weight.

To correct mistaken Body Log entries:

The procedure depends on when the mistake was made.

If the mistake happened today:

  1. From your Home Screen, open the Diet Menu (by clicking the word Diet) and choose "Body Log." The Body Log will open.

  2. Type the correct entry over the erroneous figure.

  3. Click OK. Before closing the log, Diet Power will adjust your Body History, calorie budget, and other records to account for the correction.

If the mistake happened before today...

...it can be corrected only by temporarily changing Diet Power's working date.*

  1. From your Home Screen, open the Calendar by:

or

  1. Find the date whose entry you want to correct.

  2. Highlight the date, by clicking it.

  3. Click OK. The calendar will disappear and you'll find yourself back at the Home Screen. To remind you that you're no longer working on today's records, either the screen's background color will be yellow instead of green (if you're using the Weight History or some other version of the Body History as your Home Screen) or the Diet Power whistle will be green instead of red (if you're using the logo screen). In addition, the Home Screen's title bar will now display the working date.

  4. Open the Diet Menu (by clicking the word Diet) and choose "Body Log." The Body Log will open.

  5. Type the correct entry over the erroneous figure.

  6. Click OK. Before closing the window, Diet Power will adjust your Body History, calorie budget, and other records to account for the correction.

  7. Open the Calendar again, by repeating step 1, above.

  8. Click the Today! button. Diet Power will change the working date back to today.

  9. Click OK. The Calendar will disappear, leaving you back at your Home Screen.

*

If you'd rather not use  the Calendar, you can change your Working Date from within the Food Log, the Exercise Log, or your Body History graph on your Home Screen.

If you leave Diet Power running all night...

...you won't be able to make new Body Log entries the next morning until you exit from the program and restart it. Reason: Diet Power assumes a constant date until it gets a peek at your computer's clock, which it checks only during startup. For instructions on exiting the program, see Logging Off.

If you use Diet Power at the office...

...and you've already completed today's Body Log on your home computer, the office computer won't know this, of course¾it will automatically show you the Body Log again. But you don't have to remember your entries the second time if you've made a travel disk or e-mailed your records to yourself. Just OK whatever numbers are already showing in the Body Log, and Diet Power will automatically correct them when you update the office computer with your home records. (Don't neglect to do the update. If you forget, your office computer will not only assume the wrong Body Log entries but also pass the errors back to the travel disk or email that you make before going home.) For instructions on making and using a travel disk or e-mailing your records, click here.

A Safeguard

If you try to enter a weight that causes your calorie budget to fall below 1200 calories per day, Diet Power will warn that this may have you eating too little for adequate nutrition. You can ignore the warning (by clicking OK and going about your business), but Diet Power urges you to design a safer diet instead. (Obviously, eating fewer than 1200 calories per day is more likely to be hazardous if you're a big person with a high metabolic rate than if you're a small person with a low metabolic rate. Ask your doctor for advice.)

To change what your Body Log records or displays...

...see Body Log, Setting Up Your.

To convert kilograms (kg) to pounds...

...multiply kilograms by 2.2.

To close the Body Log:

If you want to save your work, click the OK button. Diet Power will save your changes and take you back to your Home Screen.

If you'd rather discard the work, click the Cancel button or press the Escape key. Diet Power will discard any changes you've made. Then the program will either shut down or take you back to the Home Screen, depending on whether you were in the middle of a log-on or already working in a session.

(If the OK and Cancel buttons are not visible, see Taskbar, Hiding to Make Screens Deeper.)
